The American Legion Department of Michigan, the largest veteran service organization in Michigan, is accepting applications for the position of department adjutant.
Must have been honorably discharged from a branch of the U.S. military
The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the operation of the Lansing and Detroit offices of the State Department of The American Legion, by performing a variety of high level responsibilities and represents the interests of the organization throughout the State of Michigan. Directs and coordinates operations of The State Department of Michigan American Legion an organization that provides various support programs to its constituents. Oversees the organization’s State Legislature and State Veterans’ Committees and has direct contact with State, Federal and State Elected officials. Prepares budgets in consultation with Division Heads and the Finance committee to allocate funds, control costs, and maintain operations at level consistent with organization guidelines. Recommends new policy and procedures to organization governing board. The incumbent acts as a liaison between The State Department of Michigan American Legion and the National Organization and numerous committees and the Organization’s governing Board. The State Adjutant maintains confidential and sensitive information on behalf of The American Legion.
The ideal candidate will be experienced in staff and Veteran interactions have experience with all aspects of the organization and functions of the American Legion and will be able to work independently with little or no supervision. Must also have knowledge of principles and processes involved in business and organizational planning, coordination, and execution. Strong level of written and verbal communication skills, strong decision making ability coupled with a strong sense for prioritizing work and attention to detail are equally important.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Equivalent to the completion of high school is required. Bachelors Degree or general education degree or equivalent combination of education and/or training and/or experience.
Salary is commensurate with education and experience. The American Legion department benefits package is included.
