Scope:
Responsible for the development, coordination, implementation, and oversight of comprehensive literacy services to low income families and individuals that will lead to increased literacy skills and/or enhanced employability.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or a minimum of five years experience in literacy based programs/education/programming or a combination of education and experience that is similarly appropriate.
- Knowledge of and ability to design and implement adult and family literacy based activities including assessment, service planning/coordination, instruction, service monitoring, and adequate follow-up.
- Knowledge of and ability to use computers as part of the educational process.
- Knowledge of and ability to design and implement outreach, education, and counseling practices targeted towards persons facing economic, social, health, age, and educational barriers.
- Ability to empathize and communicate with those persons facing economic, social, health, age, and educational barriers in a diverse community.
- Ability to identify, contact and work with area service providers, teachers, and other professionals to supplement Wayne Metro CAA academic and life skills programs in the interest of aiding clients meet program goals and achieve greater self-sufficiency.
- Ability to effectively provide supervision for assigned staff and coordinate program activities.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
- Ability to adapt to variations on working schedule and willingness to work weekends and evenings to respond to program and client needs.
- Perform work in a manner that upholds Wayne Metro policies and procedures.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Good interpersonal and professional skills including but not limited to professional appearance, tact, punctuality, and dependability.
- Ability to work with a minimum of supervision.
Work Hours: Work to be scheduled Monday through Friday with specific hours to be determined by program needs.
