The Electrical Engineer has primary responsibility to lead development of a variety of electrical system design activities inside the company. Typical systems will include lab data acquisition, instrumentation and control systems; custom control systems for manufacturing equipment; and analog RF circuit design. The Electrical Engineer will work closely with Lab Staff, Scientists, System Manufacturing and other Engineers and will be expected to develop solutions to a variety of hardware problems.
The Electrical Engineer will work a cutting edge material synthesis and characterization lab that develops powder metals, ceramics and composites. Equipment includes a variety of GPIB based data acquisition and control systems as well as custom design manufacturing systems. Role requires a strong hardware background, including analog and digital circuits. Benchtop debugging skills including use of spectrum analyzers and vector network analyzers will be required.
Essential Duties:
- Design analog RF circuits including resonant circuits, matching networks and filters
- Design control systems and instrumentation for 3D additive manufacturing systems
- Design and program data acquisition, instrumentation and control systems for lab equipment and manufacturing systems
- Perform bench testing of analog electronics and electromagnet circuit designs using spectrum analyzers and vector network analyzer
Specific skills required:
- Understanding of Analog / RF circuits including filters, matching networks and resonant circuits
- Digital circuit design expertise for basic control systems and instrumentation
- Basic knowledge of robotic control systems, ideally using Arduino or similar platform
- Desired: understanding of power supply design
Education/Experience:
- BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or related
- Ideally 5+ years of design engineering work on Instrumentation, Control Systems, Power Electronics, Electromagnetics or RF Design
